One time, the Sami were hunters of reindeers, and only from XI century they became nomadic breeders.

The herds of reindeers migrate two times a year in search of food between the plateau and the coast.

They are resistant animals and skilful swimmers in a position to endure the crossing of wide straits in the cold waters of the north.
